Some update for TORNA fort lovers
I have been visiting Torna for last 30 years. (Attempted it first time in my collage days in 1984) however lot of changes have taken place till then. The mengaidevi temple had got ruined and was renovated later.
Now, lot of renovation work is going on.
a. Mengaidevi temple is now fully renovated with display of fort map, informative boards on Torna history, etc. A ladder has been fixed few years ago giving proper access to Zhunzar machi. Water tank with drinking water is properly protected with a wall built around.
b. Mahadeo temple is under restoration.
c. A trekkers rest house with 2 rooms is being built near Kothi Darwaja (entrance from Velhe).
d. Konkan darwaja is being restored to its fullest glory.
e. A tar / concrete road is being built till first hillock from Velhe side reducing climb time by atleast ½ hr. (is this required? )
f. A crane service for building material is set up near Zhunzar machi for transporting building material from ‘Met Pilavare’ village to the top. Met Pilavare is at 1/4th fort height on other side of Velhe and is now connected to Vajeghar village by a dirt road suitable to vehicle traffic.
g. A (new?) approach foot road is now in place from Met pilavare village to Konkan darwaja (but it looks steep and challenging)
h. Visited Bhagat Darwaja for first time. However could not find any downward road leading from this darwaja. An entrance from the other side ie Walanjai darwaja leads to village Bhatti.
Fort Torna was never a tourist place and I hope it does not become one in future.
Happy trekkeing !!
