Backpack Outdoors Trek Rajmachi 7th – 8th Aug 2010

In these rains, a walk through cloud with a fascinating valley view, crossing rivers, viewing milky white waterfalls and a chance to experience village life, sounds interesting ? So here we have a perfect place to spend your weekend, BACKPACK WEEKEND’S :- visit to Rajmachi ( a trek).
Situated at a distance of 18kms from Lonavala station Rajmachi stands tall as a guardian of the trade routes which existed years ago. Today it is a popular trekking spot; away from the cities it has its own beauty and a village at the base of the forts. There are 2 hills which were converted into forts namely Shriwardhan & Manoranjan centuries ago. Even today the remains of the fort are so expressive; we fell as if we have gone back centuries. The architecture, the strategic location and the view from these forts is a must see for all.
On the way we cross many rivers, and a long stretch of a jungle, which makes this long walk to Rajmachi fun and adventurous. Udhewadi the base village of the forts it powered by solar energy supplied by Tata power. Stay in a typical village house with locally available food is worth an experience.
Our journey will begin from Lonavala to Tungarli dam and then a dirt road will lead us to udhewadi the base village at Rajmachi. We will stay there for the night. Visit to the two forts and descend to Karjat is our plan. On the descend we will visit Kondana caves and spend some time in the waterfall. We will proceed to karjat railway station to board our trains back home.
