YatriSahyadri has organized a trek to Matheran via Sunset Point on Saturday, the 23th of July, 2016.   Some basic information about the trek is as follows:   Hill: Garbett Point Height: 800 meters/2,625 feet Range: Sahyadri District: Raigad Level: Easy   ABOUT THE PLACE:   Discovered in 1850 by Hugh Poyntz Malet, the then District Collector of Thane District, Matheran was a popular hill resort for the British. It was the perfect way for them to escape the scorching summer heat in India, during their colonial regime. Later, Lord Elphinstone, the then Governor of Mumbai, pioneered the development of Matheran as a future hill station of India. Located at a height of 800 m (2,625 ft) above sea-level, Matheran is one of the tiniest hill stations in the country   If you want to visit a place which is a hill station but really different one or unique hill station – Matheran is the best choice. This is the place truly loved by all – Picnic Lovers, Trekkers as well as jungle lovers.   The climate of Matheran is very cool. The most unforgettable things about Matheran is deep forest and the waterfalls nearby, especially in rainy season. The beauty of the hill station gets doubled in monsoon. YatriSahyadri has organized a trek to The Highest Peak in Maharashtra, Kalsubai Peak on the 24th July, 2016.   KALSUBAI PEAK:   Type: Hill Fort Height: 1646meters/5400feet above MSL Grade: Medium Region: Nashik Village: Bari   Kalsubai Peak (Marathi: कळसूबाई शिखर is the highest peak (1646 meters) of the Sahyadris in Akole Taluka, of Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.   To reach the summit there are various trekking routes and animal tracks. The main route starts from the village of Bari which is about six km from Bhandardara.   It usually takes three hours to reach the top from Bari. Soon after leaving, a small stream is crossed followed soon after by a Hanuman temple. The route from behind this temple takes the hiker straight to the summit. There are three iron ladders along this route. There is a well near the last iron ladder as one approaches the top but the water is not potable during the summer. The rest of the route is without water, so it is best to fill water bottles in Bari. It is an easy hike, but parts of it are quite steep in places. At the summit is a small temple of Kalsubai, which can seat just three people. The vastly spread out backwaters of Bhandardara attracts ones attention from the top. To the north of the mountain range forts such as Ramsej,Harihargad, Brahmagiri, Anjaneri, Ghargad, Bahula, Tringalwadi, Kavnai can be seen. YatriSahyadri has organized a trek to Bhimashankar via Ladder route on Sunday, 10th July, 2016 (Starting Saturday, 9th July, 2016 night).   SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE PLACE:   Bhimashankar Type: Hill Height: 3500 Feet above MSL (Approximately) Grade: Medium Region: Pune Base Village: Khandas. Bhimashankar is one of the 12 Jyotirlings of India, a pilgrimage place approximately 3500 feet high up in the hills. The area around Bhimashankar is covered with thick dense jungle. The Maharashtra Government has also declared it a Sanctuary.   The sanctuary is small (only about 100 sq. km’s), but it is home to a wide variety of animals Leopard, Sambar, Barking deer, Porcupines, Grey Junglefowls, Wild pig, Hanuman langur, Rhesus macaque and Flying Squirrel etc. The sanctuary is famous as the home of a highly endangered subspecies of the Indian Giant Squirrel – Shekharu (Ratufa indica elphistoni), which is also the state animal of Maharashtra.   Shiva Temple . The temple of Bhimashankar is around 1200 – 1400 years old and is built on the Hemad Panthi style. There are very beautiful sculptures and paintings on the roof and pillars of the temple. At the front of the temple hangs a huge metal bell cast in 1729. There is also a 15-20 feet high “Deepmala” or lamppost in the outer corridor of the temple. There is also an inscription on stone on this lamppost. It is to be noted that the original name of the river Chandrabhaga at Pandharpur is Bhima. This Bhima River originates at Bhimashankar.   Gupt Bhimashankar . There is a water stream route going down from the left of the Ram temple. Taking that route, we enter a thick jungle. We reach a temple around 25 minutes through this route. A route going toward the waterfall, left of this temple, leads to the “water sculpted” “Shiva Linga” under this waterfall.
