SPROUTS Trek to Kohoj fort and overnight camping August 28 – 29, 2010

Dear Friends,
You may recollect last month’s spectacular monsoon trek to Prabalgad.

This month we invite you to join SPROUTS for a trek to the Kohoj fort along with camping and exploration in Maley Village near Vikramgad (Wada), Thane District.

The Plan:
On Sat Aug 28, the participants will spend the afternoon and night at one of our Trustees’ farm at Maley Village. Participants will have the chance to explore the hutments of the Warli tribes, visit the local river, paddy fields and forest, and like every other SPROUTS’ trek get acquainted with the birds, butterflies, spiders, insects, mammals, wild flowers and plants of the region. Since it is a camping outing, all participants will need to carry their own bedding (ground sheet & body cover.

The next morning we will begin our trek to Kohoj fort, which has a beautiful view of the Dehraj and Vaitarna rivers, with two peculiarly shaped pinnacles and water tanks at the top.

Getting there:
Participants will meet at Dadar station on Sat, Aug 28 at 12noon (participants can also board in Borivali & Virar or meet directly on Palgarh Station too). From Dadar we will take a train to Palghar and proceed towards our Trustees’ farm at Maley village by State Transport bus. After lunch at the farm, participants will explore the nearby river, paddy fields and tribal hutments.

The next morning we start our trek to Kohoj post-breakfast say around 9am and reach the top by 12pm. After some sightseeing at the top, we shall descent as usual, cleaning up the forest of non-biodegrable wastes, to leave the place in a much better condition.

Participants will reach Mumbai (Dadar) by 8:00pm on Sun, Aug 29.

Fees: Rs. 900/- for members and Rs.950/- for non-members. Cost includes accommodation at the farm in Maley Village, simple veg dinner, breaskfast and Light snacks during the trek & refreshments, travel by state transport buses, literature and guidance about wildlife sighted will be provided by the organisers/experts. In case of hire of private transport such as autorickshaws or tumtums, addition travel charges at actuals shall be chargeable.

Please carry a sleeping mat/bag & blanket, wear proper shoes/footwear, carry at least 2litres of water per head, besides any fruit (if necessary), rainwear/umbrella and a change pair of clothes in case you intend to get wet in the rain/streams.

Last date for confirmation is Thu Aug 26, 2010 noon. Maximum number of participants is 25.
