Aasamant Trek to Kohoj 5th Sept 2010

Kohoj at a glance….

Kohoj, the hill fort is situated in Palghar region. One can see this fort while traveling on Mumbai-Ahmadabad highway near Manor Naka.This fort is at about 10 kms from Wada.

The fort is situated at a height of 3200 feet above MSL (mean sea level).

There are two different routes to get to the top of Kohoj, one which starts from Nane village and other one from Waghote village. We will be taking the route which starts from Waghote. This village is located on Manor-wada route at around 8 kms from Mumbai-Ahmadabad highway. One can reach to the top of Kohoj within 3 hrs from the base village.

We can find the name of Kohoj in the list of those 23 forts, which were surrendered by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the Purander treaty with Mughals on 11 June 1665.

In 16th century, Portuguese captured this fort from the King of Gujarat. They constructed fortifications and bastions on this fort. Later, in 18th century, Peshwas conquered this fort in their campaign of 1737. Afterwards the fort remained under the British rule.

* Temple of Lord Krishna.
* A man-shaped pinnacle is one of the greatest wonder of nature’s creation. This is the most attractive place on the fort.

* First Pickup Point : 05th September 2010 morning 06:15 am at Anand Talkies (Opp.Thana station (E) )
* Second Pickup Point : 05th September 2010 morning 07:00 am at National Park (Borivali (E))
* We will reach Waghote village by 09:00 am
* Back to Mumbai by Evening 07:00 pm
