A Walk Across the Garbett Plateau

Sunday, July 9th, 2017 | mumbaihikers | Matheran

1.5 hours drive from Mumbai, as you walk turning east from Bhivpuri Road, on the State Highway 79 from Karjat, you find yourself walking past lake Dhom. Keep walking east and soon enough you are among rolling hills covered in green. Small streams form many a clear puddles and the temptation to stop and frolic in the crystal clear water is almost too much. keep heading upwards due east until you reach a tiny hamlet and then turn north. After a decent strenuous climb you will find yourself on the Garbett plateau.

It is always windy here during the monsoons and if you are literally walking among the clouds. keep walking North across the plateau to get to Garbett Point and then a long walk along the trail to matheran town.

I am convinced that this is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the Sahayadris.
